MATH 6-8

HLA's math programme is designed to meet the rigorous Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) standards, ensuring that our students receive a high-quality education that prepares them for success in high school and beyond. In addition to the TEKS, we also use Math in Focus to give our students a solid foundation in mathematical concepts and problem-solving skills.

Our eighth grade students take Algebra 1, a course traditionally offered in high school. This advanced mathematics course helps students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills that are essential for success in higher-level mathematics courses and in the real world.

At HLA School we believe that every student has the potential to excel in mathematics. Our experienced teachers and supportive learning environment provide the tools and resources our students need to succeed and achieve their goals.

ELA 6-8

HLA's ELA programme is designed to meet the rigorous Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) standards, ensuring that our students receive a high-quality education that prepares them for success in high school and beyond.

In our ELA programme we use SpringBoard, a comprehensive and challenging curriculum that helps students develop their reading and critical thinking skills. Our students have the opportunity to study a variety of genres, including fiction, non-fiction and poetry, and are encouraged to think critically about what they read.

At HLA School we understand the importance of reading and the role it plays in a student's overall academic success.

Reading improves vocabulary and language skills, increases knowledge and understanding, enhances critical thinking and analysis, improves concentration and focus, and increases empathy and understanding of others. That's why we place a strong emphasis on reading instruction and encourage our students to read widely and frequently.

Social Studies 6-8

The Social Studies programme is designed to be interactive and student-centred, providing students with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed. Our Year 6 programme covers a wide range of topics including the history, culture and geography of Asia, Africa and Europe. Through interactive lessons, engaging activities and compelling videos, your students will explore these regions and their impact on the world today.

Seventh graders learn about the diverse cultures, people and events that have shaped Texas throughout history. From the earliest Native American tribes to the modern metropolis of Houston, we cover it all. Students will explore the state's geography, economy and government, and gain a deeper understanding of the issues and challenges facing Texas today.

Eighth graders will explore key periods in American history, including colonisation, the American Revolution, the Constitution, the Early Republic, industrialisation, the Civil War, and more. Our programme will help students develop a deeper understanding of the key events and figures that have shaped our country, as well as the broader political, social, and economic trends that have defined American history.

The interactive lessons, engaging activities and videos help students to connect with the material and make learning more fun and interactive, allowing students to learn in a way that resonates with them.

Science 6-8

Our programme is designed to meet the rigorous Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) standards, ensuring that our students receive a high-quality education that prepares them for success in high school and beyond.

Our science curriculum is designed to provide students with hands-on learning experiences through laboratory experiments and inquiry-based activities. We believe that students learn best by doing, and our programme is built around this philosophy. Our students have the opportunity to develop skills such as observation, data collection and analysis while conducting experiments that help them understand the concepts they are learning.

Our programme also focuses on preparing our students for high school level science classes. Our teachers provide a challenging and engaging learning environment that helps our students develop the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in high school science classes.
