Horizon Leadership Academy
Our character education program is grounded in the standards of the American School Counselor Association (ASCA). Following the ASCA National Model, we embed academic, career, and social-emotional development into everything we do, ensuring that character growth is not a separate initiative but a natural part of every student's daily experience. We embody ASCA's core values of leadership, advocacy, collaboration, and systemic change by working across our school community - administrators, teachers, counselors, and families - to support the whole child.
We prioritize the well-being of our students. Our counselor works with students individually and in groups, using ASCA-aligned practices to support their social-emotional growth and academic success.
We are committed to creating a safe and caring learning environment for our students, where they can develop not only academically but also personally. We believe that by emphasizing character education and social-emotional learning, we can help our students become well-rounded individuals who will make positive contributions to their communities.
Our character education curriculum is self-developed, built on our school's own values and the principles outlined in our Pathways book, and enriched with content from Piermont Press. This approach allows us to design a program that reflects who we are as a school community while drawing on trusted, research-based resources.
Through this curriculum, we teach our children the importance of empathy, service, and connection.
In addition to providing a solid academic foundation, our aim is to nurture students into competent and compassionate individuals, empowering them to achieve their fullest potential. When students feel secure, supported, and part of a community, they tend to perform better, exhibit greater kindness, and be more eager to attend school daily.
