Horizon Leadership Academy encourages all students to participate in the athletic program at a level consistent with their ability and all athletics practices and games are considered school obligations.
The Physical Education (P.E.) program at Horizon Leadership Academy, aligned with Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) standards, promotes the physical, mental, and social development of students. Designed to encourage lifelong fitness and well-being, the program integrates exercise, sports, and educational games to build teamwork, sportsmanship, and leadership skills in a fun and inclusive environment.
Students engage in warm-ups, stretches, and dynamic exercises that improve cardiovascular health, strength, and coordination. By focusing on setting personal fitness goals, students develop routines that support long-term wellness and a healthy lifestyle.
The curriculum introduces students to a variety of team sports, including soccer, basketball, volleyball, handball, badminton, and dodgeball, helping them build essential skills such as strategy, collaboration, and communication. Each sport emphasizes fundamental techniques while fostering respect, perseverance, and teamwork in a supportive setting.
Through track and field activities such as running, jumping, and throwing, students enhance speed, strength, and coordination. These events challenge students to set personal records while teaching resilience and sportsmanship.
Creative games like relay races and obstacle courses integrate physical activity with problem-solving and teamwork. These activities promote spatial awareness, motor skills, and collaboration while making fitness enjoyable and engaging.
Horizon Leadership Academy hosts school-wide tournaments in sports and athletics to encourage healthy competition and school spirit. These events provide students with opportunities to showcase their skills, strengthen peer relationships, and develop confidence and a sense of community.
By the end of the year, students will have developed foundational skills in various sports, understood the importance of fitness in daily life, and demonstrated teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship, preparing them for lifelong physical and personal success.
