Welcome to our school's Music program!
The Music Program at Horizon Leadership Academy provides students with meaningful opportunities to develop their voices, musical knowledge, instrumental skills, creativity, and confidence. Through singing, theory instruction, instrumental practice, listening activities, and live performances, students learn to appreciate music while developing discipline, teamwork, self-expression, and performance skills.
The Music Program develops students’ skills in vocal performance, music literacy, rhythm, instrumental performance, and music appreciation.
Students learn to sing with accurate pitch, rhythm, pronunciation, and expression while developing an understanding of basic notation, note values, musical symbols, tempo, and form.
Grades 1–3 explore the melodica, recorder, ukulele, rhythm sticks, and percussion instruments, while Grades 4–5 develop foundational skills in violin, cello, guitar, and piano through engaging, hands-on musical experiences.
Through listening activities, students also explore different musical styles, historical periods, and significant composers. Regular practice, choir rehearsals, instrumental activities, and performances strengthen coordination, confidence, teamwork, responsibility, and musical expression. Student progress is evaluated through participation, effort, performance-based assessments, and an end-of-semester review.
Music education is not just about playing an instrument. It's about learning to listen, to work together, to appreciate other cultures, and to express yourself in a way that words cannot.
