Advanced Academic Opportunities at HLA

Horizon Leadership Academy offers a variety of rigorous academic options to prepare students for college success. Our OnRamps dual-enrollment courses (in partnership with The University of Texas at Austin) allow students to earn both high school and university credit while experiencing real college coursework.

Students can also challenge themselves through Advanced Placement (AP) courses recognized nationwide for college credit potential, and Honors courses that provide enriched instruction, higher expectations, and deeper learning experiences.

These opportunities ensure HLA graduates are college-ready, confident, and academically competitive.

Advanced Academic Pathways

At Horizon Leadership Academy, we believe in providing every student with access to rigorous, college-level learning experiences that foster academic excellence and independence. Through OnRamps Dual Enrollment, Advanced Placement (AP), and Honors programs, students can explore advanced coursework aligned with their strengths and post-secondary goals

SchooLinks: Your All-in-One College & Career Readiness Platform

At HLA, we partner with SchooLinks to give students a modern, fully-integrated system to plan for life beyond high school — whether they’re headed to a four-year university, community college, certification program, or directly into a career or the military.

Key Features

  1. Student Self-Discovery & Exploration:
Students complete interest inventories, mindset surveys, and build portfolios of their strengths and goals — helping them identify post-secondary options that align with their passions and competencies.
  2. College & Career Search:
Within SchooLinks students can research 2-year and 4-year colleges, career pathways (including emerging and military fields), and service/volunteer opportunities.
  3. Application & Document Management:
The platform offers the “College Application Manager” module: integrates with the Common Application, automates transcript/ recommendation workflows, shows application status, deadlines and helps students stay organized.
  4. Course Planning & Graduation Tracking:
Students use the module to align their high school coursework with graduation requirements and future pathways (careers or college). For Texas specifically, it supports CCMR tracking and Personal Graduation Plans (PGP).
  5. Real-Time Data for Counselors & Families:
Counselors can view dashboards of student progress, application status, and interventions needed. Parents/guardians are also able to engage via the platform and monitor their student’s plan.
  6. Scholarships, Financial Aid & Cost Comparisons:
Students can search for scholarships and compare college costs, aid awards and out-of-pocket impact.
  7. Career & Industry-Partner Connections:
The system supports building connections with local businesses, alumni networks, internships and work-based learning.

Online Elective Classes

At Horizon Leadership Academy, students have the opportunity to explore a wide range of online elective courses through our partnership with GlobalTown Learning. These electives are designed to align with students’ Texas Endorsements, allowing them to pursue specialized interests in areas such as STEM, Business & Industry, Public Service, Arts & Humanities, and Multidisciplinary Studies. Through GlobalTown’s interactive and self-paced platform, students can select electives that complement their academic goals — from career-focused subjects like Entrepreneurship, Digital Design, and Computer Science to creative and exploratory options like Psychology, Forensic Science, or World Cultures. This program provides students with flexibility, enrichment, and college- and career-ready skills while personalizing their educational experience.
