At Horizon Leadership Academy, we are actively monitoring and preparing for the new Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA) program, scheduled to begin for the 2026-27 school year. We are collaborating with the Texas Private School Association (TPSA), other independent/private schools in Texas, and national school-choice networks to better understand how TEFA can be implemented in a way that supports our mission of student engagement, character building, global leadership, and high academic standards.Below are the key details and helpful resources for families:

TEFA is a state-sponsored Education Savings Account (ESA) program that will provide eligible students with funding to attend approved private schools.
At HLA, our admissions process will remain rigorous and aligned with our core values (Integrity, Responsibility, Service, Innovation, Empathy). Participation in TEFA does not guarantee admission or priority for any student.
HLA has no control over which students or families receive TEFA funding. The decision and allocation of funds are managed entirely by the State of Texas.
Because there is a finite statewide allocation for 2026-27, not all eligible families may receive funding. We encourage all parents considering HLA to prepare accordingly.
As always, our school community will maintain its established culture and standards. TEFA does not alter HLA’s vision or the character-based education we deliver.

Begin gathering any documentation you may need (residency, previous enrollment records, special-education documentation if applicable).
Watch for communications from HLA — we will notify all families when we receive official guidance from the state about application windows, funding decisions, and how HLA will participate.
Consider how TEFA might support your family’s educational plan for your student(s) at HLA. Reach out to our Admissions Office with any questions or for help navigating the information.
We are excited about the possibilities TEFA might provide for families seeking high-quality, values-driven education. At Horizon Leadership Academy, our commitment remains the same: engaging students in teamwork, building strong character, maintaining high academic standards, and cultivating global leadership. We will keep you informed every step of the way.
Thank you for your partnership in your child’s education.
Warm regards,
